![]() In the lab, 20 years later, 2003
Although I took the creation of each hologram seriously, they served more to open doors for more lucrative work over the years: outreach programs, workshops, consulting work, even laser & holography birthday parties (birthday parties? Yes . . . anything to put food on the table for a family of five at the time! ).
You'll probably read and hear more about me through my work with the technology itself, rather than as an artist. In fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find my name listed along with other "artists" in the field of holography -- although I've enjoyed many exhibits over this 20 year period, including such places as the Hirshhorn Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute, Wash., DC. Artists seem to view me as a scientist, and scientists seem to view me as an artist. Actually, they're both right. Regardless, the creative aspect of my work always centered around not just duplicating objects, as you find in many holograms in general, but using holography to show images that could not be created through any media other than holography itself. I hope several of the selected images of my work spoke for themselves in this regard.
My studio/lab has been located in Allentown, Pennsylvania from the beginning -- and continues to rely on home-built equipment to this day, so as to show first-hand what can be achieved by the amateur/hobbyist/student holographer . . . in their homes and schools. You can come to my studio and make holograms through my workshops, now in their own 20th year as well.
If you have any comments that you would like to send regarding this online exhibit, you may contact me at: director / at / holoworld / dot / com.
Thank you for stopping by and viewing my work.
