Welcome to the D&S LASERS web site. The DS650-25 driver provides ultra-stable operation, long-coherence length (14 feet MINIMUM) and locked, high-contrast fringes when used with the specified laser diode (see below) -- specifically fine-tuned for the field of holography. This provides todays holographer with a unit that exceeds the specifications of the "traditional" Helium-Neon gas laser -- and, in addition, at a fraction of the price.

The DS650-25 Driver Saves You Money

You will also find it much more stable and reliable than the micro-drivers contained in many laser diode modules. If ANY component of a "typical" laser diode module fails (either the micro-driver or the diode itself), the entire epoxied module must be thrown away -- and another ENTIRE unit must be purchased. The DS650-25 driver unit is MODULAR -- ANY of it's terminal-strip mounted electronic components can be easily replaced in minutes. If your diode fails, simply disconnect it from the driver and re-connect another.

Features of this system include:

* 25mW High Power -- 27-28mW typical
35mW laser diode (specified, see bottom of page) provides 25mW guaranteed optical output power (27-28mW typical). The 658nm-rated laser diode is driven at 2.3 volts (instead of 2.8v) which produces 650nm with this system -- producing brighter reflection holograms than at 658nm. Laser diode must be ordered separately (see below).
* High Contrast Fringes
Provides bright, high-contrast holograms with sharp edge and shadow detail. Increases diffraction efficiency of all holographic work over HeNe lasers.
* D&S "Fringe Lock" Circuit
Active optical feedback circuit/IC chip combination completely eliminates fringe drift and jitter that other micro-driver circuits miss. There is NO gas laser on the market that can match the DS650-25's stability out of the box.
* Long Coherence Length
Completely eliminates beam-path matching in split-beam set-ups -- just set-up your components wherever you place them and shoot. Coherence has been measured out to 14 feet.
* Adjustable Focus Optics
From a several-micron point to several feet in diameter -- as easy as turning the lens (when used with housing and barrel specified below).
* No spatial-filtering needed for single-beam holograms
Remove the collimating lens and have a beautifully-clean spread of laser light -- without a spatial-filter -- from 2.5-inch plates to 30 x 40-cm and above. Optical feedback circuit is not effected by removing the lens.
* EM/RF Ferrite Girdled Filtering
For exceptionally clean power delivered to the diode itself. Filters ambient EM/RF interference.
* Quality Electronics
The best transistors, capacitors, resistors and IC chip.
* AC/DC Operation
Run it from batteries or from any standard AC wall transformer that provides clean, regulated 9v DC output.

    This is a driver unit that powers a laser diode. You must purchase the laser diode separately. The following information is for the laser diode that connects to the DS650-25 driver unit to meet the above specs. You put the laser diode in the housing and then connect it to the driver. You will need both the laser diode and barrel/collimating lens combination. You must order these items from the companies below:

    TIP: I highly recommend using a light coating of silicone heat-sinking compound (found at Radio Shack) to the laser diode when mounting in the housing. Gently tap the diode into place so that the surfaces are in contact.
