You've Reached the Famous 3D MOON Download Page

My name is Frank DeFreitas and I have created what many consider to be the most incredible 3D photo of the moon. It was unveiled to the public at the New York Hall of Science on Sept. 17 & 18, 2011. The project, along with the associated display, won an Editor's Choice Blue Ribbon.

The 3D iPhone Moon Download is made of two photos: the LEFT eye moon photo is from the 1860's. It is by Prof. Henry Draper, taken at his private astronomical observatory in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. The RIGHT eye view is from my own telescopic observations, during the full moon (supermoon) of 19 March 2011.

When viewed on your iPhone or iPod Touch screen with the Hasbro My3D viewer, it hovers right in front of your eyes as a three-dimensional round sphere -- made up entirely of photos taken over 150 years apart. Antiquarian meets contemporary!

Antique Stereoview
The 19th Century Draper stereoview card. I used the left photo.
And replaced the right photo with my own.

The 3D photo file was made by carefully registering both old and new photos, and having them match precisely. Not every two photos will combine to form a 3D image of the moon. Each has to be taken at the right time or the resulting image of the moon will remain flat (2D). When viewed properly, the moon will appear as if you are traveling toward it in space.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIEWING:

Download (below) the stereo .JPG file and transfer it onto your viewing device. Attach your Hasbro My3D viewer. Find and open the file. You can view it the same way you would view any other 3D photo with your Hasbro My3D viewer.

Please enjoy my latest 3D Moon file for the iPhone and iPod Touch (I also have created files for the Nintendo 3DS system, 3D televisions, and most autostereoscopic viewing systems). Remember that this 3D photo of the moon covers a period of time that equals 150 years. When you view it, you are not only traveling through space, but you are also traveling through time.
