Hologram of the Moon

Entry: 27 May 2011

This is a multi-part journal. If you arrived from a search engine, you might want to begin with the table of contents page.

First Person to View the Hologram of the Moon (3D)
The first person in the world to view the hologram of the moon -- and, more than likely, the very first human to EVER view ANY hologram of the full moon in history -- is David Clayton, curator of the Klein Gallery of the Univesity City Science Center in Philadelphia, PA.

The below 3D anaglyph photo shows David looking through the gelatin silver glass plate hologram. What does he see? He sees the actual crater-surfaced moon captured as a 3D round sphere, floating in free space. You will need Red/Cyan 3D glasses to view the photo in the third dimension. Red filter over your left eye, cyan filter over your right eye. The photo was taken with the Fuji 3D W3 camera.

My online multimedia presentation on the creation of this hologram is completed and can be found HERE.

In the meantime, stay tuned for updates.

P.S.

Our vintage moon art for this installment (top photo) is an antique, turn of the century trade card. It was altered (electronically, not physically) to act as a header to the holoworld web site. It shows a boy and girl conducting an optics / physics experiment on a summer evening. Note the moon rising behind the young lady. A toddler is on her toes to see what her friends are doing on the table top. A kitten and dog enjoy the activities. (Circa: 1900). You can find antique art depicting the moon throughout the Hologram of the Moon section of holoworld.
